There’s always been a certain question in mind with how technologically advanced these movies are getting, especially ones in the Monsterverse. Are these getting closer and closer to animated movies? Sure, the visual effects are a huge part of these movies. One could even say that they’re *the* reason people see a Godzilla movie or a King Kong movie, or even something like James Cameron’s Avatar movies. I think it’s just fascinating to think about when a new one of these movies comes out, but either way, I’m still pretty excited for anything in this universe.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the latest movie in the Monsterverse, which recently wrapped up its first series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. I’ve only watched the first episode, but the fact that I’ve only heard good things about it must be a good sign. After Godzilla and Kong’s explosive showdown, the two Titans must team up to fight a colossal, ancient threat that threatens not only their Hollow Earth, but our Earth as well. Adam Wingard returns to the director chair after helming Godzilla vs. Kong, which ended up being the biggest box office earner for Warner Bros. during 2021, when they released their movies into theaters and onto MAX (f.k.a. HBO Max). It beat out Dune: Part One, The Matrix Resurrections, and The Suicide Squad. If you’re actually curious, the most successful of theirs streaming wise out of the 2021 lineup was Mortal Kombat, with Godzilla vs. Kong in a close second.

Not including a giant lizard and a giant ape, The New Empire stars Rebecca Hall (The Night House, Resurrection), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), Dan Stevens (The Boy and The Heron, the upcoming Cuckoo), Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns (Andor, The Batman), Fala Chen (The Undoing, Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings), and Rachel House (Thor: Ragnarok, Moana).

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire hits theaters on March 29th. 2024.
