The South By Southwest (SXSW) Film & TV Festival has kicked off in Austin, Texas and Sean Chandler Talks About is on the ground attending some of the biggest premieres and happenings.

Alex Garland’s Civil War has moviegoers feeling uneasy about the topic given the tumultuous political landscape and divisive nature of American society right now. Still, early reactions are praising the film’s balancing of tones, how it doesn’t take any sides, and the performances. Some are even dropping the “masterpiece” word.

The film stars Kirsten Dunst (The Power of the Dog, Spider-Man), Wagner Moura (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, The Gray Man), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Beau Is Afraid, the upcoming Dune: Part Two), Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla, the upcoming Alien: Romulus), Jesse Plemons (Killers of the Flower Moon, I’m Thinking of Ending Things), and Nick Offerman (The Last of Us, Devs).

Civil War hits theaters on April 12th, 2024.
