Not the news I wanted to hear after the film was taken off its initial release date but here we are. It has just been announced that Bong Joon-Ho’s Mickey 17 has shifted to 2025.

The film will now open on January 31, 2025, which is a little puzzling as it's a follow up from the Oscar and Cannes Palme d’Or winning Parasite filmmaker. Some thought it would be moved to open during festival season after coming off the March 29, 2024 date, but that's not to be the case. The upside is that Warner Bros. will have IMAX at its disposal since January doesn't have many wide releases.

Mickey 17 was to open on March 29, shortly after Dune: Part Two this year but the strikes pushed the movie off of the date. The January date also indicates that the movie likely won’t be meant for the 2024 Oscar season since it's not getting a platform release in December.

Per the film's synopsis, "Mickey 17 is an “expendable”, a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact." The film stars Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.
