Emily Blunt In Talks To Join Dwayne Johnson In Benny Safdie’s A24 MMA Film - News Reelz

From Gaius Bolling

Dwayne Johnson could very well be joined by a former co-star in his next project. It has been announced that Emily Blunt is in talks to join Benny Safdie’s solo directorial debut The Smashing Machine, an A24 feature film starring Dwayne Johnson. The duo previously starred in Disney's Jungle Cruise together.

Blunt is in talks to play Dawn Staples, Mike Kerr’s wife. Kerr is the UFC champion that Johnson is portraying in the film. When describing Dawn the studio said, "While trying to set up a new life together, Dawn struggles to find her place within Mark’s chaotic and contradictory world.”

The project would also serve as a reunion for Blunt and Safdie. The pair starred in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which is up for several Academy Awards. Production on The Smashing Machine is set to begin this summer.

The logline for The Smashing Machine states, "‘The Smashing Machine’ is a drama based on the story of Mark Kerr, the legendary MMA fighter from the no-holds-barred era of the UFC at the peak of his career. He struggles with addiction, winning, love and friendship in the year 2000.”
